
NC State Gymnastics Wins Meet on Senior Night

Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State gymnastics team closed out its 2003 home season with a season-best score of 196.200 and a first place finish in a quad meet Saturday night at Reynolds Coliseum. EAGL conference foe Pittsburgh placed second with a score of 193.975, James Madison was third (191.825), and William & Mary took fourth (191.475). The Pack celebrated senior night and honored Cara Dougherty, Marlyn Madey, Stephanie Southard, and Adina Stock before the meet.
The Wolfpack (15-4) started the meet off strong with a season-high score of 48.900 on vault. Three NC State gymnasts finished in a tie for first place. Juniors Molly Pennington, Cheryl Potacco, and Leah Sabo all scored a 9.8 to win vault. Senior Adina Stock and freshman Kylah Bachman tied for fifth, each with a 9.75.
On bars, NC State finished with a team score of 48.950. Both senior Marlyn Madey and sophomore Kelley Kello scored a 9.85 and tied each other for first place. Madey's win was the fourth straight meet she has won bars. Senior Stephanie Southard was third with a 9.8. Bachman scored a 9.775 for fifth, and Stock was 13th with her score of 9.675.
Moving over to beam, the Pack put together a team score of 49.100. Sophomore Cori Goldstein turned in a near perfect performance and won beam with a score of 9.9. Senior Cara Dougherty scored a 9.85 for second place, while Bachman was third with her score of 9.825. Kello scored a 9.8 and Madey notched a 9.725 to round out the Pack's scoring.
The Pack finished the meet strong scoring a 49.250 on floor, its second highest score of the season. For the third week in a row, Sabo brought home a first place finish on floor, this week with a career-best 9.95. Junior Alison Bundy turned in a strong performance with her score of 9.875 to place second. Madey and Goldstein each scored a 9.85 and tied for fourth, while Kello and Stock tied for 13th each scoring a 9.725.
NC State hits the road for two more meets before the conference championships on March 29 at New Hampshire to end the season. The Pack will be at Utah State this Friday for a 7:00 p.m. meet.
