Will Shaw won his fifth match of the season, his second at No. 3 singles, Wednesday night against No. 39 William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. as the men's tennis team fell in defeat 6-1. The Wolfpack pushed three of the six singles matches to three sets, and also battled to the end for the doubles point as No. 2 and No. 3 lost 8-4 and 8-5 respectively.
Shaw defeated Alex Fish 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) at No. 3 singles for the Wolfpack's point, but the freshman's win wasn't the only bright spot, just the brightest. R.J. Murray, in only his second match as the No. 2 singles player, lost in three sets to Jeff Kader, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Chris Mills, a freshman from Burlington, stepped up his game at the No. 6 seed as he continues to impress the coaches with his hard work and improvement since the beginning of the season. Mills battled to a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 three set showing against Joe Brooks.
NC State will host Old Dominion on Saturday at the Cary Tennis Center as they search for their fifth win of the season.
