Raleigh, N.C. - There was no final decision in the Winthrop - NC State match at the Cary Tennis Center on Wednesday. After being delayed by nearly an hour, the teams took to the courts and started singles play in hope of reaching a decisive score, but it was to no avail. Two matches were completed at the time the match was called, with Loni Worsley picking up her sixth consecutive win.
Worsley, who is ranked No. 110 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Poll, took down Paula Takahashi in the three-seed match with a score of 6-0, 6-3. The only other final score was a Winthrop win by Jenny Andrade in the number one match over Kristin Lam, 6-1, 6-3.
Three Wolfpackers were leading their matches when play was called. Danielle Stadelmann, Myrna Bawono and Jennifer Jassawalla each won their opening sets, and were near to closing the second sets, but were unable to seal NC State's fifth win of the season when rain set in for the evening.
It will be decided later if the teams will make up the match, or if it will be completely cancelled.
NC State will return to the Cary Tennis Center on Friday as host of the Appalachian State Mountaineers at 3 p.m. in regional action.
