The NC State wrestling team earned three pins midway through Thursday night's match with Campbell, helping it to overcome an early deficit and roll on to a 34-11 victory at Carter Gymnasium.
The Camels jumped out to a 5-0 lead after Andy Bricker received a technical fall victory at 5:37 over freshman Brian Conyer at 125 pounds. Conyer was filling in for usual starter George Cintron who was out due to knee surgery. The Wolfpack would bounce back, however, when 133-pounder Dan Pacetti decisioned Luke Francis, 13-7, and Ryan McCallum earned a 6-1 overtime win over Adam Bricker at 141.
With the match score still close at 6-5 in favor of the Wolfpack, NC State's Jake Giomani pinned Elliot Berger at 149 pounds in 1:50. NC State's success continued when Scott Garren won by major decision at 157 and Dustin Kawa picked up the Wolfpack's second pin of the night over Adam Rees in a time of 4:39 at the 165-pound class.
Campbell came back at 174 when Jon Carlisle pinned Mike Grochowski by a time of 2:40. But the Camels' success didn't last long as NC State's Jon Godwin answered back by pinning Brian Hocum at 6:48 in the 184-pound class. The Wolfpack would grab two more wins with Daniel Humphries defeating Josh McConnell, 6-2 at 197, and heavyweight Leroy Harris edging Dennis Campbell by a score of 7-4.
NC State improved to 7-9 on the season, while Campbell fell to 5-15. The Wolfpack will next head to No. 21 Iowa State for a Sunday afternoon match.
