Men's Soccer Falls at Radford 1-0

Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State men's soccer fell at Radford 1-0 Saturday afternoon, in what turned out to be a defensive struggle for both squads. The Highlanders (7-8-1) netted the game's only goal with 35 seconds remaining in the first half, and held on to shutout the visiting Wolfpack (8-7-1). NC State did get good news on the day, with the ACC regular season wrapped up, the Wolfpack finished in a tie for fourth place with No. 6 North Carolina.
Freshman defender Jonathan Smith's first collegiate goal with 35 seconds left in the first half gave Radford the home victory. Smith received a flick from junior Sean Johnson and headed the ball to the right of NC State keeper Jorge Gonzalez for the game-winning goal. The play was set up by a long throw-in from Mark Merrill.
Radford outshot NC State 12-11, with the Highlander's Dan Stevens recording five saves for the shutout. NC State's Gonzalez finished with three saves.
