The NC State volleyball team will travel to take on Atlantic Coast Conference foe Florida State on Saturday night at 6 p.m. The Wolfpack (7-19, 0-11) are recently coming off a 3-1 loss to North Carolina in a match that saw freshman outside hitter Julia Reis go down with a torn ACL in her left knee. Meanwhile, the Seminoles (12-12, 2-8) are looking to build off a 3-0 win over Southern Florida this past Wednesday night.
With Reis, NC State's leading scorer, out for the remainder of the season, head coach Mary Byrne will be looking for her players to step up. One such player is that of junior middle blocker Maya Mapp, who enters the match against FSU with a team-best attack percentage at .293. Mapp is also second on the team in kills with 222, while outside hitter Melanie Rowe is next on the list with 124. Senior Crystal Shannon and freshman Melissa Rabe have been sharing time at the setter position, dishing out 715 and 195 assists respectively.
On the defensive side of the net, senior libero Caroline Frede has provided a strong backbone for the Wolfpack, leading the team in digs with 310 thus far. Meanwhile, Mapp and fellow middle blocker Paige Gilliam have stood tall around the net, combining for 167 total blocks for NC State.
The Seminoles are led by rightside Cassie McLaughlin and middle blocker Aisha Carr offensively. McLaughlin has a team-best 261 kills to her account, while Carr has also been quite productive with 239 kills off a .286 attack percentage. Junior middle blocker Amanda Santos has been hot in the last five matches for FSU, tallying 26 blocks. Senior setter Jennifer Anderson, meanwhile, will be looking to add to her 651 assits on the year, as she only needs 139 more to become the Seminoles' all-time leader in career assists.
