The NC State volleyball team will travel over to North Carolina Tuesday night in an Atlantic Coast Conference match-up that pits two rivals against each other. The Wolfpack (7-18, 0-10) is coming off a winless weekend and looking to turn things around in Chapel Hill. Meanwhile, the Tar Heels (16-8, 7-3) are fresh off a 3-2 win over conference opponent Clemson. Match time is set to begin at 7 p.m.
Leading NC State's offense is freshman outside hitter Julia Reis, who has been the team's leader in kills all season long and currently has 254 to her account. In addition to Reis, head coach Mary Byrne will look to junior middle blocker Maya Mapp to help contribute on both sides of the net. Mapp features a team-best .291 attack percentage and is second in kills with 211, while defensively, she is first on the squad with 87 total blocks.
Helping to aid Mapp around the net will be fellow middle blocker Paige Gilliam, who is second on the team in total blocks with 78. Senior libero Caroline Frede will look to surpass 300 digs on the season against the Tar Heels, as she enters the match with 292, while Reis is right behind her with 262 of her own.
North Carolina is led by outside hitters Molly Pyles and Dani Nyenhuis, along with middle hitter Katie Wright; all of who have recorded over 200 kills thus far. Pyles is first on the team with 316 kills and second in digs with 253. Meanwhile, Nyenhuis and Wright have also stepped up offensively with 243 and 236 kills respectively. Middle hitter Aletha Green anchors the Tar Heels defense, tallying 102 total blocks on the year.
