Men's Soccer Records Shutout

Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State men's soccer recorded its fifth shutout of the season with a 2-0 win over visiting Charlotte Friday afternoon at Method Road. The game was the first for the Wolfpack (7-6-1) in the Big Four Tournament this weekend, as NC State will next host UNC Greensboro Sunday at 2:00 p.m. The Wolfpack got a goal in each half from senior Hiroki Kawase and sophomore Aaron King, and keeper Jorge Gonzalez recorded the shutout over the visiting 49ers (4-8-2).
NC State's struck first in the 21st minute. Senior Hiroki Kawase recorded his first career goal off assists from fellow senior Chris Gannon and sophomore Aaron King. Gannon took a shot toward the Charlotte net, and Kawase got his foot on the ball and redirected it into the 49ers goal at the 20:49 mark. The score would remain 1-0 through the first half.
The Wolfpack would go on and add an insurance goal in the 63rd minute. Sophomore Federico Peria found an open King along the left side of the field for the breakaway, and King netted his ACC leading eighth goal of the season at the 62:02 mark. Peria picked up the assist, his eight assist in the 10 games he has played this season.
The Wolfpack defense would limit the Charlotte offense to only eight shots, with only two on goal. Sophomore Jorge Gonzalez recorded both saves, giving him his fifth shutout of the year, the most shutouts for a Wolfpack keeper since 1994.
NC State returns to Method Road this Sunday, to face UNC Greensboro at 2:00 p.m.
