Pirates Sink Wolfpack Volleyball, 3-0

Three East Carolina players tallied double-digits in kills, led by sophomore outside hitter Erica Wilson's match-high 16, as the Pirates cruised to a 3-0 victory over the NC State volleyball team Tuesday Night at WIlliams Arena. The win moved ECU to 9-13 on the season, while the Wolfpack dropped to 6-14 overall.
East Carolina opened game one with seven straight points and led 10-1 before NC State rallied off a 9-3 run to make the score 13-10. The Pirates, however would shove away, jumping to a 19-12 lead, but the Wolfpack wouldn't go away quietly, as it tied the game 22-22. NC State would then take the lead for the first time on the night off a kill by sophomore right side Amy Cochran. But ECU managed to come back, and with help of an 8-5 run, took game one by the score of 30-28.
In game two, both teams came out with strong offensive attacks, as NC State hit .310 as a team, and ECU at .342. The Wolfpack took a 5-3 lead that was short lived as the Pirates battled back to go ahead, 11-8. The two teams would go back and forth, but in the end it was East Carolina that prevailed, 30-24.
Down 2-0 and heading into game three, the Wolfpack looked to turn things around, but came up short. Pirates outside hitter Sarah Vick helped lead ECU on an 11-3 run to give the Pirates an 18-10 lead. The deficit would prove to be too much as NC State would fall 30-17.
Cochran led the way offensively for NC State, finishing the match with a team-best 10 kills off a .429 attack percentage that tied her career best. Junior middle blocker Maya Mapp tallied seven kills to go with seven total blocks, and senior setter Crystal Shannon dished out 29 assists.
In addition to the play of Wilson, Vick recorded a double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs, to go with five service aces for ECU. Freshman middle blocker Jaime Bevan chipped in 12 kills, while junior setter Jessica Vick finished with a match-high 46 assists on the night.
The Wolfpack will not return home to Reynolds Coliseum to play host to Wake Forest and Duke this weekend. NC State takes on the Demon Deacons at 7 p.m. on Friday night, followed by the Blue Devils at 7 p.m. on Saturday night.
