
Track Runs at Virginia Tech

Blacksburg, Va. - The NC State track & field teams took their entire squads to Virginia Tech this past weekend, and competed in the Kroger Invite. Kristin Price won the 3,000 meters on the women's side, while David Patterson won the 3,000 meters and James Rowell won the weight throw for the men.
David Patterson won the 3,000 meters for the men's team with his time of 8:22.95. The Wolfpack placed two runners in the top-20 in the mile, with David Christian taking home a second place finish with his time of 4:13.99 and Nick Mangum was ninth (4:16.31). In the 200 meters Derrick High placed 10th with a time of 21.97, and Adam McGugan was seventh in the 600 meters (1:21.80), and Jesse Rhodenbaugh took 10th in the 800 meters (1:54.61).
James Rowell took home top honors in the weight throw, with a top heave of 19.16 meters. Randy Cass placed seventh in that same event (15.86m). Other top finishes from the field participants had Jesse Williams taking second in the high jump clearing 2.10 meters. Eric Hoverstad was fourth (4.75m) and David Kessler seventh (4.60m) in the pole vault. Michael Hill placed seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 14.43 meters.
On the women's side, Kristin Price took home first place honors in the 3,000 meters with a NCAA provisional time of 9:35.63. NC State as a team was strong in the 3,000 meters, with none of its six runners finishing lower than 21st: Beth Fonner (8th - 9:49.94), Diana Henderson (13th - 10:15.79), Abigail Nelkie (16th - 10:22.11), Michelle Popple (17th - 10:24.40), and Ginger Wheeler (21st - 10:32.75). Felicia Fant finished 10th in the finals of the 60 meters running a 7.61, and Ebony Foster was fourth in the 60 meters breaking her own school record with a time of 8.51 and 15th in the 200 meters (24.68).
Teresa Reed brought home a second place showing in the pole vault, with a mark of 3.55 meters. Both Katie Phelan and April Goolsby cleared 1.60 meters in the high jump to tie for sixth place. Kelly Smoke was strong in both of her events, taking fourth in the weight throw (18.25m) and sixth in the shot put (14.20m).
