ACC Names 50th Anniversary Men's Track & Field Teams

Raleigh, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference 50th Anniversary Men's Indoor & Outdoor Track & Field Teams were announced today by Commissioner John Swofford. The 50-member teams were voted on by the nine league institutions as decided by the league's 50th Anniversary Committee.
In indoor track, Clemson led all league schools with ten members on the Golden Anniversary team while Georgia Tech and North Carolina were tied for second with nine honorees apiece. Maryland had seven runners selected, followed by Duke (5), Virginia (4), NC State (3), Florida State (2), and Wake Forest with one.
In outdoor track, Clemson led all league schools with nine me bers on the Golden Anniversary team while Georgia Tech, Maryland and North Carolina were tied for second with eight honorees each. Duke had five players selected, followed by NC State and Virginia with four apiece and Florida State and Wake Forest with three.

Michael Patton NC State 1986-1989 Dallas, N.C. Chan Pons NC State 1997-2000 Franklin, N.C. Alvis Whitted NC State 1994-1997 Hillsborough, N.C.Michael Patton, NC State (1986-1989): Three-time All-American in the triple jump from 1986 to 1988 ... Three-time ACC Champion in the triple jump from 1987 to 1989 ... Was a member of the 1988 ACC Championship team and the 1987 and 1989 ACC runner-up teams ... Was selected to the All-Conference team in 1986 and 1987 ... Second all-time in NC State history in the triple jump with a distance of 54'05.50" set in 1987.
Chan Pons, NC State (1997-2000): All-American in 3,000 meters in 1998 (9th at nationals) ... All-American in 3,000 meter in 1999 (12th at nationals) ... All-American in 5,000 meters in 2000 (9th at nationals) ... All-American in 3,000 meters in 2000 ... All-ACC in 1998, 99 and 2000 ... Won the 1999 ACC 5,000 meter championship ... Won the 3,000 and 5,000 meters at the ACC Championships in 2000 ... Winner of the Jim Weaver Award in 2000 ... Winner of the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in 2000.
Alvis Whitted, NC State (1994-1997): Recipient of the H.C. Kennett Award in 1996-97, which is given annually to the ou standing all-around student-athlete at NC State ... Two-time ACC Champion in the 55-meter dash in 1995 and 1996 ... Voted ACC Championship Co-MVP in 1996 ... selected to the All-ACC team in 1994 and 1996 ... Was a member of the 1996 Conference ru ner-up team ... Third all-time in NC State history in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.21 set in 1994 and a member of the fastest Distance Medley Relay team in school history with a time of 9:42.02 set in 1998.

Kevin Braunskill, NC State (1988-1991): Three-time All-American in 4x100 meter relay in 1988, 1989, and 1991 ... Three-time All-American in 200 meter dash from 1989 to 1991 ... ACC Champion in 100 meter dash in 1989 ... Two-time ACC Champion in the 200 meter dash in 1989 and 1991 ... member of ACC Champion 4x100 meter relay team in 1988 and 1989 ... member of fastest 4x100 meter relay team in school history with time of 39.07 in 1989 ... member top- two 4x400 meter relay teams with times 3:05.86 set in 1990 and 3:05.92 set in 1991 ... Harvey McSwain, NC State (1983-1986): All-American honors six times, twice for the 200 meter dash (1983, 1986), once for the 100 meter dash (1983), three times as a member of the 4x100 meter relay team (1983, 1985, and 1986) ... Won 1985 NCAA Championship as member of the 4x100 meter relay team ... ACC Champion in the 200 meter dash in 1983 and 1986 ... A member of the 1983, 1985, and 1986 ACC Champion 4x100 meter relay teams ... a member of the four-time ACC Championship teams from 1983 to 1986 ... Second fastest man in NC State history in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.18 set in 1985 and the fifth fastest man in the 200 meter dash with a time of 20.30 set in 1986 ... A member of the second, fourth, and fifth fastest 4x100 meter relay teams in school history ... Also a member of the five fastest 4x200 meter relay teams and the fourth fastest 4x400 meter relay team.
Danny Peeples, NC State (1985-1988): Recipient of the H.C. Kennett Award in 1988-89 which is given annually to the outstanding all-around student-athlete at NC State ... All-American honors seven times, four times as a member of the 4x100 meter relay team (1985 to 1988) and three times for the 200 meter dash (1986 to 1988) ... member of the 1985 NCAA Championship 4x100 meter relay team ... member of the three-time ACC Championship 4x100 meter relay team (1985 to 1987) ... ACC Championship MVP in 1987 and 1988 ... Two-time ACC Champion in the 100 meter dash (1998 and 1988), two-time ACC Champion in the 200 meter dash (1987 and 1988) and ACC Champion in the long jump in 1988 ... member of the four-time ACC Championship teams from 1985 to 1988 ... Two-time All-American in the triple jump in 1993 and 1994 ... Two-time ACC Champion in the triple jump in 1993 and 1994 ... member of the 1991 ACC runner-up team ... selected to the All-Conference team in 1990, 1993, and 1994 ... Holds the school record for longest triple jump with a distance of 55'05.75"w set in 1993 ... also ranks third in school history in the long jump with a distance of 25'10.00w also set in 1993.
