NORFOLK, Va.--The NC State women's soccer squad knocked off the Old Dominion Monarchs 1-0 Saturday evening in exhibition action. The Wolfpack moved to 2-0 in the preseason after ripping the Charlotte 49ers last week 5-1.
Adrienne Barnes netted the game-winning tally for the Wolfpack at the 7:10 mark of the first half into the upper corner of the net past Knight goalkeeper Stephanie Miller for her second goal of the preseason. Annika Schmidt assisted on the play.
The Wolfpack peppered the Old Dominion goal with 17 shots, while the Monarchs could muster just nine. Gretchen Lear made two saves in net for the Wolfpack, while freshman Lauren Georges made one. NC State also led in corner kicks 9-3.
"We did a really great job of creating chances for ourselves out there," said NC State head coach Laura Kerrigan. "However, their goalkeepers played magnificently and held us to only one when we could've had more."
"We possessed the ball well in the middle though and got numbers into the box, so that's something that we can definitely take from tonight."
The Wolfpack will begin their regular season on Friday at 4:00 p.m. against the Kent State Golden Flashes at Method Road Soccer Stadium.
