Distance Runners Compete at Stanford

Stanford, Calif. - The NC State track & Field sent seven distance runners to compete in the Stanford Invite Friday night. In one of the top meets of the season, NC State brought home three NCAA Automatic times and also three NCAA Provisional times.
On the men's side, Andy Smith notched a NCAA Automatic time in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 8:40.46 for a seventh place finish. In the men's 5,000 meters, NC State finished with two NCAA Provisional times. Ryan Woods was the Pack's top finisher in 16th place with his time of 13:53.58, while Chris Seaton took 18th with a time of 14:05.64. Also in that race, David Patterson just missed the NCAA mark with his time of 14:16.94 for 24th place.
Meanwhile, the NC State sprinters were at Ohio State on Sunday competing in the Jesse Owens Invitationals. The men's 4x400 meter relay squad ran their second NCAA Provisional mark of the season. The Pack finished first with a season-best time of 3:07.18. Other results at Ohio State had Derrick High placing second in the 400 meters with a time of 46.60, followed by Tyrone Dozier in third with a time of 46.71. Joseph Brent was seventh in the 200 meters (21.44).
The Pack's top event on the day was the women's 5,000 meters, where two NC State runners ran NCAA Automatic times. Katie Sabino finished fifth in that race with a time of 15:53.69, while teammate Kristin Price was close behind in eighth with a time of 15:59.09. In the women's 3,000 meters steeplechase, Megan Coombs placed fourth with a NCAA Provisional time of 10:25.66.
