Salems Glen, NC- Coming into the ACC Championships, NC State's Women's Golf team was the underdog to win the tournament along with every other ACC school. Favorite Duke University had won sixth straight ACC Championships, and NC State was in only their second season since 1986 when NC State dropped Women's Golf. Last season, after a 15-year hiatus, the Women's Golf team finished sixth, last among the six ACC school's fielding teams. This season, despite winning three straight tournaments in the spring, no one gave NC State much of a chance at dethroning Duke. Despite falling short, NC State's impressive run landed them in second place after day one and in a solid third after the final round trailing only Duke and Wake Forest. Duke has won nine of the 14 championships with Wake Forest winning three more.
Colby Cobb lead the way for the Wolfpack by placing ninth with a 73-76-75=224 (+8). The ninth place finish was Cobb's fourth top-ten of the season and the ninth place finish is tied for her second highest this season. She also matched her low round this season with the first round 73.
Erica Wein shot 81-74-74=229 (+13) for her fourth top-20 of the season at T-14th, which matched her second lowest finish of the season.
Malin Claesson finished tied for 16th with her three-day total of 72-77-81=230 (+14). Claesson is tied with teammate Cobb for the team lead with her sixth top-20 finish.
Freshman Sarah Bonner, team stroke leader heading into the weekend, finished T-18th as NC State placed its top four golfers into the top-20, one of only three schools (Duke and Wake Forest) to do so. Bonner fired a 74-77-80=231 (+15) during the championships.
Leslie Stubblefield narrowly missed her second top-20 of the season by finishing tied for 21st and carding a 76-77-82=235 (+19).
NC State will now await a NCAA Regional bid and will try to advance to the NCAA Championships.
