The NC State track & Field was back in outdoor action this past weekend, competing at the UNC Classic hosted by North Carolina.
The men's sprinters did well at the UNC Classic, especially in the 100 meters. Senior Joseph Brent finished second in that race with a time of 10.80. Close behind in third was TJ Giwa with his time of 10.89. Also in the 100 meters: Derrick High was eighth (11.13), Tyrone Dozier placed 11th (11.22), and Jason Vieira took 16th (11.68). In the 200 meters, Eric Hoverstad was 17th (24.31) and David Kessler was 18th (25.51). Competing in the 400 meters, Adam McGugan took seventh with a time of 50.75, followed closely by Jonathan Willis in eighth place (50.80). The men's 4x100 meter relay squad captured first place running a 41.11.
Jason Vieira won his first triple jump title recording a mark of 14.16m. Brandon Brown was third in the high jump clearing 2.00 meters. In the pole vault, David Kessler took third (4.85m) and Eric Hoverstad was seventh (4.55m). James Rowell finished third in the discus (52.14m) and fourth in the hammer (52.03m). Randy Cass also competed in both those events, taking sixth in the discus (45.16m) and seventh in the hammer (45.53m). Ryan Furlough was eighth in the hammer (43.64m).
The women's sprinters had an impressive day for the Pack. Freshman Ebony Foster won the 100 meters with a times of 12.15 for her first career win. Sophomore Felicia Fant was close behind in fourth, running a 12.39. Other results in the 100 meters were: Katie Bolac in 12th (13.04), Adrianne Adams was 15th (13.20), Adrienne Vinson placed 17th (13.49), and Leigh Neely was 18th (13.51). For the second straight week, senior Renae Robinson brought home a second place finish in the 400 meters, this weekend running a 56.44. In the 100 hurdles, it was Adrienne Vinson in sixth (15.30) and Leigh Neely in ninth (15.95). The 4x100 meter relay team also finished in first (46.30).
In the 800 meters, Karen Medlin was 13th with a time of 2:22.52, and Karen Sykes was 15th (2:23.30). Abigail Nelkie took 15th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:59.67.
In the field events, senior Katie Bolac led the way with a second place finish in the pole vault by clearing 12'00". Also in the pole vault, Teresa Reed was seventh (10'06"), and Megan Kearney placed eighth (10'00"). Kelly Smoke was busy on the day, taking second in the discus (44.60m) and she was also fourth in the hammer (49.50m). Patricia Watson placed 10th in the hammer with a heave of 40.62m.
NC State will host the annual Raleigh Relays this Friday and Saturday.
