CHARLESTON, S.C. - NC State picked up its sixth win of the season by defeating the Lady Bucs of East Tennessee State (1-7) Wednesday afternoon at the Charleston Tennis Center by a mark of 7-0. The shut-out is the Wolfpack's third of the season. Play was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but was postponed until Wednesday afternoon on due to rain.
In singles action, NC State (6-5) picked up all six points for the sweep. Wolfpack Senior Katrina Gildemeister had no problem with Jessica Irey in the No. 1 match, winning in sets of 6-0, 6-2. Junior Myrna Bawono performed well in the No. 2 match for the Wolfpack to defeat Tatiana Arriaran with ease, 6-2, 6-1. Jennifer Jassawalla made her first appearance of the season in the No. 3 match and defeated the Bucs' Gemma Halim, 6-3, 6-3. Jassawalla has now seen action at the three, four, five and six positions for NC State this season and garnishes a combined record of 7-3. In No. 4 singles, Freshman Danielle Staddelmann blanked ETSU's Aimee Villavicencio in straight sets of 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Taylor Parker had a great performance for the Pack in her first collegiate match of the season. Parker overpowered ETSU's Heather Jones in the No. 5 singles match to win 6-1, 6-1 . NC State tabbed a point for the No. 6 match with a win by default.
In doubles play, Kristen Nicholls matched up with partner Katrina Gildemeister to defeat the Buc tandem of Irey and Villavicencio, 8-1. Loni Worsley and Landis Strader captured the point for the Pack with a win over ETSU's Halim and Arriaran, 8-3.
NC State will return to the courts of the Wolfpack Tennis Complex on Saturday when the Lady Jackets come to town for ACC action. Georgia Tech is 10-2 on the season and is ranked No. 21 by the Omni Hotels Intercollegiate Tennis Association Poll. The match is scheduled for 11 a.m.
