Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State men's soccer team blanked visiting VMI 2-0 Wednesday afternoon at the Method Road soccer complex. The Wolfpack improves to 4-7 on the year with its first shutout of the season despite playing the final 36:10 with only 10 players due to a red card, while VMI falls to 1-6-3.
NC State got the eventual game-winner just five minutes into the contest. Freshman Federico Peria played a long ball up to fellow freshman Aaron King on the right wing. After some nifty dribbling, King worked his was into the VMI box and netted his sixth goal of the season at the 4:08 mark. The score would remain 1-0 NC State at the half.
The score stayed 1-0 until late in the contest. Peria would once again start the scoring when he dribbled the ball along the endline and found freshman Bryant Salter streaking into the box. Salter netted his fourth goal of the season at the 80:59 mark to up the score to 2-0.
NC State goalie Mitchell Watson recorded the shutout in goal finishing the day with four saves. VMI keeper Thomas Upton also had four saves.
NC State will host Duke this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at SAS Soccer Stadium in Cary, N.C.
