Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State men's soccer team fell to conference rival North Carolina 2-1 Saturday night in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels (9-5, 2-2 ACC) got timely goals, one in the second minute and the game-winner in the final minute, to down the visiting Pack (4-9, 0-6 ACC).
North Carolina jumped on the scoreboard first with a goal in the third minute of the game. Matt Crawford dribbled down the wing and crossed the ball into the NC State penalty box. Ryan Kneipper headed the ball to David Testo who scored his fourth goal of the year at the 1:56 mark. The score remained 1-0 through the half.
NC State would get on the scoreboard in the second frame. Freshman forward Bryant Salter stole the ball off a UNC defender and found himself one-on-one with the keeper. Salter tucked the ball into the far side of the goal at the 67:29 mark for his fifth goal of the year. The score would remain 1-1 until the final minute.
After a couple UNC corner kicks, Crawford would score the game-winner with just 12 seconds to go. Crawford collected a pass from Ray Fumo deep in the NC State penalty box, and bounced the ball off a Wolfpack defender and into the net for the 2-1 win.
NC State's Mitchell Watson had a huge game in goal racking up 13 saves, including stopping a UNC penalty shot late in the first half. UNC's Ford Williams had three saves and earned the win.
