Senior outside hitter Rebecca Anderson finished with a team-high 14 kills and sophomore middle blocker Maya Mapp added 10 more for NC State Saturday night, but it wouldn't be enough as Wake Forest defeated the Wolfpack in four games by the scores of 30-12, 30-18, 27-30, 30-27.
The Wolfpack falls to 3-20, 0-5 in the ACC, while Wake Forest moves to 19-10, 3-3 in conference play.
After jumping out to a two-game lead, the Demon Deacons found itself leading game three 22-16. But NC State rotation between setters Lindi Sheppard and Crystal Shannon, teamed with the offensive attack of Anderson and Mapp would propel the Wolfpack back into the game. Slowly but surely NC State tied the game at 26-26 before taking the lead and never looking back; marching on to a 30-27 victory.
Wake Forest would come back on the attack in game four, however, led by outside hitters Valerie Rydberg and Sara Beth DeLisle and middle blocker Kim Stern. The trio would ensure the Deacons an early lead once again, but this time that lead would never be surrendered, as Wake would roll to its third conference win.
Sheppard finished with 30 assists, while Shannon added nine more for the Wolfpack. Freshman Adeola Kosoko added nine kills of her own and also grabbed five total blocks on the night.
For the Deacons, Stern finished with match-highs in both kills (18) and total blocks (7). DeLisle contributed with 14 kills, while Rydberg added 13 more and a .417 attack percentage.
NC State will now have a week to prepare for two conference road matches, beginning with Virginia on Friday and then Maryland on Saturday. The Wolfpack will take on the Cavaliers at 8 p.m. in Charlottesville, while NC State's contest with the Terrapins is set for a 5 p.m. start.
