NC State Volleyball Wins Outback Wolfpack Classic Championship

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State won a three-way tie-breaker with Campbell and Marshall to take the championship in the Outback NC State Wolfpack Volleyball Classic, which concluded play Saturday night in Reynolds Coliseum.
The Wolfpack, Camels and Thundering Herd all finished the tournament with a 2-1 record, but NC State won the tournament championship by virtue of having won seven of 10 games in its three matches for a .700 winning percentage. Campbell and Marshall both were 6-3 over their three matches for a .667 percentage. Campbell won a tie-breaker with Marshall for second place on the basis of point differential.
In the tournament finale on Saturday night, Kara Lewis had 19 kills, and Abby Jenkins and Sarah Peterson both recorded double figures in kills and digs to lead Campbell to a four-game victory over NC State. Jenkins had 14 kills and 14 digs, and Peterson had 13 kills and 14 digs as the Camels defeated the Wolfpack 30-28, 30-24, 24-30 and 30-22.
Charece Williams had 19 kills and 13 digs for NC State, and Rebecca Anderson had 15 kills. Tournament MVP Alison Kreager had nine kills, 14 digs and a pair of blocks to go with a team-high .269 attack percentage.
In addition to Kreager, NC State also placed Williams and Anderson on the all-tournament team. Jenkins and Lewis made the team from Campbell. Kimberly Wright of High Point and Nicole Michal of Marshall rounded out the all-tournament team.
In the first match of the evening session, Jodi Fick had 15 kills and Isabell Anderer had 11 kills to lead Marshall to a three-game victory over High Point, beating the Panthers 30-25, 30-25 and 30-11. Marshall hit at a .387 clip, with four players hitting better than .400 with at least 10 total attempts. Kimberly Wright had seven kills and six digs to pace the Panthers.
Marshall, which came into the tournament winless on the season, won for the second time in three matches to improve to 2-4 on the season. High Point fell to 2-5 with the loss.
Earlier on Saturday, three NC State players recorded double figures in kills, led by Charece Williams with 20, as the Wolfpack defeated High Point in three games.
The Pack defeated the Panthers 30-23, 30-28 and 30-23 and has won its first two matches in the round-robin tournament. High Point, which lost for the second time in as many matches in the tournament, fell to 2-4 with the loss.
Williams had a .395 attack percentage in 38 total attempts to go with eight digs. Alison Kreager had 10 kills, two blocks, a .381 attack percentage in 21 attempts, and 10 digs for the Pack. Setter Lindi Sheppard had 10 kills, five digs and 41 assists.
High Point was led by Kimberly Wright, who had 17 kills, a .233 percentage, and nine digs. The Panthers hit .146 for the match, compared to a sterling .321 total for the Wolfpack.
In the first match of the day, Campbell suffered its first defeat of the season, losing in three games to previously winless Marshall, 30-22, 30-28 and 30-24. Isabell Anderer paced the Herd with 14 kills and nine digs, while Nicolette Sanlin had 12 kills in 18 total attempts for a .556 percentage. Kara Lewis paced the Camels with 13 kills and six digs.
