Harrisonburg,Va.--Meghan Cameron and Keri Lages tallied a goal and an assist each as the Rutgers Scarlet Knights defeated the NC State Wolfpack women's soccer team 3-0 Friday evening at the JMU Comfort Inn Invitational.
Cameron put the Scarlet Knights on the board first in the 27th minute, on a blast to the left corner of the net from 25 yards out. Lages assisted on the play.
Lages then netted a goal of her own in the 49th minute when she hammered a cross from Cameron into the left side of the net, past Wolfpack goalkeeper Gretchen Lear (Springfield, Virginia) for a 2-0 lead.
Carli Lloyd put the game away for Rutgers (2-1) with a blast from 22 yards in the 90th minute of action on a feed from Erin McIntyre for the final margin.
Lear notched six saves for the Wolfpack in the loss.
"We got shoved around quite a bit out there," said NC State head coach Laura Kerrigan. "We had about four wide open chances at the net, but just could not convert. I think that missing those early chances really took a lot out of us in the end. It was just a very disheartening loss for our players."
The Wolfpack (1-2) will now turn its attention to James Madison for a match Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
