Durham, N.C. - South Florida's Jason Cudjoe scored three minutes into the second overtime period, to give the Bulls a 2-1 hard-fought victory over NC State at the Duke Adidas Tournament Friday night.
NC State struck first with a goal only 2:51 in the game. Forward Isreal Mejia controlled a punt from keeper Mitchell Watson at midfield and fed a long pass to a streaking Lee Baldwin on the wing. Baldwin caught South Florida's goalie off his line, and lobbed the ball over his head into the open goal to give the Pack the lead.
NC State also posted two near chances in the first period. Michael Karim's free kick from 20 yards out bounced off the upper crossbar, and Matt Tabor narrowly missed a goal with a strike from 30 yards out.
After trailing1-0 at the half, South Florida got on the board in the 67th minute. NC State's Marcus Johnson pulled down Cudjoe in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Jeff Thwaites tucked the ball into the right side of the goal to tie up the score.
NC State would get one last chance to pull away with the victory late in the second half. Sophomore David Snoke fed Baldwin inside the penalty box, but Baldwin's shot bounced off the post with only 1:50 to play.
After a scoreless first overtime period, South Florida notched the game winner at the 118:29 mark. After a NC State rush on goal, South Florida's Brandon Streicher cleared the ball up to Cudjoe. After a few bounces, Cudjoe found himself one-on-one with Watson and scored the 'Golden Goal.'
Both Coach Tarantini and starting midfielder Brock Trejo missed the game for the Pack, after each received a red card in last weekend's game versus Massachusetts.
The Pack will be back in action tomorrow afternoon taking on Richmond in the Duke Adidas Tournament at 5:00 p.m.
