NC State Volleyball Opens With Win Over Jacksonville State

RALEIGH, N.C. - Charece Williams had 23 kills, a .283 hitting percentage and 12 digs, and the NC State volleyball team broke the seal on the 2001 season with a four-game victory over Jacksonville State in the first round of the Indiana University-Purdue University (IUPUI)Tournament at Indianapolis, Ind.
The Pack defeated Jacksonville State 30-22, 30-27, 25-30 and 30-17.
Williams and fellow senior co-captain Alison Kreager both turned in strong performances on attack as NC State finished the match with a solid .194 hitting percentage, including a .378 percentage in the first game. Kreager had nine kills and a .292 percentage to go with eight digs.
The Pack had 11 service aces, paced by freshmen Melanie Rowe with four and Lindi Sheppard with three. Rowe added 11 kills and 14 digs, while Sheppard, NC State's setter, had 43 assists and 13 digs.
Jenny Brenneman paced Jacksonville State with 14 kills and 13 digs.
NC State will continue play in the IUPUI Tournament on Sunday morning with an 11:30 match vs. Eastern Michigan, and then will play in the tournament finale vs. host IUPUI on Sunday at 7 p.m.
The Wolfpack will remain in Indianapolis following the IUPUI Tournament for a Labor Day showdown Monday at 2 p.m. vs. Butler.
