Track Opens Outdoor Season at Charlotte

Charlotte, N.C. -- The NC State track & Field squads kicked off their outdoor seasons by traveling to Charlotte this weekend and competing in the 49ers Classic.
Junior Katie Bolac brought home a first place finish in the pole vault for NC State, with a height of 11'00.25". Sophomore Kim Collins took 13th in the same event. In the javelin finals, sophomore Lisa Butcher placed 11th with a toss of 90'.
In the running events, all the preliminary rounds were held this afternoon. Junior Katie Sabino placed second in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:30.30. Junior Adrienne Vinson was seventh in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.18. Vinson was also 29th in the 100 meters (13.26), and freshman Desiree Mittman ran the exact same time to tie her for 29th. Freshman Felicia Fant placed 12th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.98. Fant was also seventh in the 200 meters (25.66). Vinson and Mittman again ran similar times in the 200 meters, with Vinson placing 29th (27.93) and Mittman was 32nd (28.09).
Continuing to lead the men's team is sophomore Isaiah Oglesby who placed 17th at the Indoor NCAA Championships in the weight throw. On this day, Oglesby recorded a second place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 186'07.50". Close behind was junior Ryan Furlough in seventh with a mark of 154'07.50". Sophomore Randy Cass was 11th (139'), and classmate Brad Pittman took 12th (133'4").
In the preliminaries, Sophomore Andrew Kerins posted the Pack's top finish. He was sixth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 56.08, while classmate Oliver Gatchalian was 15th (58.62). Sophomore Aahmese King placed 25th in the 110 hurdles with a time of 22.66. Also, freshman Monterio Adams was 20th (11.20) in the 100 meters, and King took 26th (11.35). Adams also posted a 10th place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 22.19. Senior Scott Wirgau was 24th in the 1,500 meters (4:05.64).
NC State will resume action tomorrow afternoon at the 49ers Classic.
