North Carolina Defeats NC State Volleyball, 3-0

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Led by three players hitting .500 for the match, North Carolina defeated NC State 30-13, 30-22 and 30-12 in an ACC volleyball match Tuesday night at UNC's Carmichael Auditorium.
The Tar Heels improved to 20-6 overall and 12-3 in the ACC. UNC remains in a first-place tie with Duke in the conference standings. With the loss, the Wolfpack fell to 6-19 overall and 1-14 in the ACC.
Nicole Reis (10 kills), Molly Pyles (7 kills) and Eve Rackham (2 kills) each hit .500 to lead North Carolina to a team hitting percentage of .305. Laura Greene led the Tar Heels in kills with 12, while Reis led the squad in digs with eight. Malaika Underwood totaled 19 assists for UNC, and Rackham added 17 assists. Greene and Carolina deRoeck each posted four service aces for the match.
Allison Kreager led the Wolfpack with seven kills. Melanie Rowe had six kills and led the squad in digs with seven. Jackie Stratton had six digs, and Blake Nicholls had five. Lindi Sheppard totaled a team-high 19 assists.
Game one was close early, but UNC reeled off 17 consecutive points to turn a 6-5 lead into a 23-5 advantage and went on to take the game, 30-13.
North Carolina started fast in game two as well, jumping out to a 20-8 lead before the Wolfpack ran off nine straight points to close the gap to 20-17. The Tar Heels proved too tough down the stretch, however, and took the game 30-21.
UNC used an 11-2 run at the start of game three to take an early advantage and never looked back, hitting .393 for the game and winning 30-12.
The Wolfpack concludes the regular season on Sunday, November 11, with a conference match at Florida State, beginning at 1 o'clock. The Wolfpack then will begin play in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament on November 15, also at Tallahassee, Fla.
