NC State Head Coach Chuck Amato
On the Win:
"It was not picture perfect. We missed a lot of big plays, dropping interceptions, dropping passes and a lot of holding penalties."
"The best thing that happened is that we had more points than they did."
NC State Players
Quarterback Philip Rivers
On Closeness of the Game:
"They kept it close and we were able to keep the ball for possession. We didn't put a lot of points on the board but put enough points to win. The game was a battle inside. The offensive line did a good job."
On Defense:
"Brian Williams made a great interception. The defense was put in a couple of holes and we (offense)
did to. Both sides of the ball fed off of each other."
Right Corner Brian Williams
On Wake:
"Wake Forest is a pretty good team. This is a big win for us because every team in the ACC has a loss. Our goal was to leave here with a win. We just wanted it more. We dug down deep."
"We're not satisfied. We want to get better every game."
On Team Effort:
"We won this one as a team. We made plays on both offense and defense."
Wake Forest Head Coach Jim Grobe
On the Game:
"NC State closed off our inside running game in the second half. It put us in a lot of second and long situations. We had some good first down plays, I thought we mixed it up a lot. We had opportunities, we just didn't capitalize on them. I think when we look at the game tomorrow we will see that it was a game of missed opportunities."
On Defensive Injuries:
"Dean Hood and our defensive guys did a good job in the second half. It was a game where we got banged up at the wrong places. There is nothing seriously wrong (in terms of injuries). Obi Chukwumah got dinged up in the second quarter. Ed Kargbo-Okorogie also got hurt. He was cleared to go back in but wasn't the same.
On Running Back Tarence Williams:
"You know you are always going to get your best shot with him. He played well but this is a team game. You can' t go in with one or two guys and expect to win in this league."
On Inconsistencies:
"Inconsistencies really hurt us tonight. I don't think we have our heads down. But you work hard and put effort into something, you'd like to get something out of it. On Monday we will get back together and get back to work. The kids know they lost to a good football team."
Wake Forest Players
Wide Receiver Fabian Davis
On His Fumble:
"I was running and the defender came up from behind and punched it out from behind. I thought is was a great defensive play."
Defensive End Nate Bolling
On Philip Rivers:
"He looks like the ugly duckling out there throwing the ball, but he gets the job done. He'll get it to the guys who will make the plays for them."
On Close Games:
"Except for Florida State, every game we have played this year has been a close game. We've just got hunker down, because we are obviously going to have a close game every week. We've just got to gut it out in the end."
Defensive Back Quintin Williams
On Improvements Needed:
"To become a good team, we have to think that we can play perfect every time. It is something we have to strive for every time. We realize it is not going to happen every time but you have to think that you are going to play a perfect game. That means doing the little stuff, like putting both hands around the ball when you are going into a group of defenders, getting deep enough on our routes and not missing tackles. I think we get over anxious sometimes and that is when we make mistakes. We need to play good disciplined football."
