NC State Volleyball Smites Appalachian State In Four Games

RALEIGH, N.C. - Alison Kreager had 15 kills and 14 digs and Charece Williams had a career-high 24 digs to lead NC State past Appalachian State in college volleyball Tuesday night at Reynolds Coliseum, the final home match of the season for NC State. The Wolfpack, which improved to 6-16 with the victory, dropped the first game before rallying to take the match by scores of 24-30, 30-27, 30-27 and 31-29. Appalachian State dropped to 2-23 with the loss.
Katie Kost and Nikki Stemler also had outstanding performances for the Wolfpack. Kost had 12 kills and a .455 hitting percentage, while Stemler had a career-high 10 kills and a .409 percentage. Setter Lindi Sheppard also set a career best with 48 assists.
Katherine Dean led Appalachian State with 18 kills and 11 digs. Karen Nielson added 14 kills and 13 digs, but hit just .080. The Mountaineers hit .192 as a team compared to .220 for NC State.
Appalachian State took command in the first game, leading by as much as seven points before settling for the six-point victory. The Wolfpack then jumped to a 13-7 lead in the second game before the Mountaineers rallied to tie the game at 17-17. The Pack went back up 21-17 and held on for the 30-27 victory. The third game was more of the same, with NC State jumping to a 15-7 lead before Appalachian State staged a furious rally to tie the score at 16-16. The Mountaineers then led at 20-18 before the Wolfpack battled back to go up 27-24 and win 30-27.
In the final game, NC State was up 17-10 and 27-16, and had match point at 29-23, only to have Appalachian tie the game at 29-29. The Pack won the game 31-29 to take the match.
NC State returns to action this weekend with a 7 p.m. match at Clemson on Friday, and a 7 p.m. match at Georgia Tech on Saturday.
