NC State Competes at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- After going a little more than a month without any scheduled meets, the NC State track & field team returned to its indoor schedule. This past weekend, the Pack traveled up to Virginia Tech to compete in the New Year's Invitational along with four other schools.
Isaiah Oglesby Earned his second straight NCAA provisional mark of the season. Oglesby took first place in the weight throw with a season-best mark of 63'01.50". James Rowell took second in that event, with a toss of 59'07.50". Oglesby also brought home a second place finish in the shot put with a mark of 49'5". Randy Cass was close behind, as he captured second in the shot put (48'07.50").
Brandon Brown took second in the high jump with a leap of 6'7". Freshman Monterrio Adams finished second in the 400 meters (49.28), and also 12th in the 60 meters (7.13). Fellow freshman Ricky Brookshire was NC State's top finisher in the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.01.
On the women's side, the Pack's distance runners all performed well. Melinda Dubose captured first place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.27. The Pack also placed three other runners in the top five; Janelle Vadnais (3rd, 2:21.16), Amy Beykirch (4th, 2:21.86), and Renae Robinson (5th, 2:22.13). Beykirch also brought home a first place finish in the mile with a time of 5:06.97. NC State pulled in the top four finishers in the mile, as Beth Kraft finished second (5:13.20), Sara Graybill was third (5:13.57), and Diana Henderson took fourth (5:14.06).
Sophomore Kristen Pace recorded a first place finish in the high jump with a mark of 5'07.75", it was Pace's second first place finish in as many meets. Freshman Felicia Fant took home two third place finishes in the sprints. Fant had a time of 7.74 in the 60 meters and 25.25 in the 200 meters. Other top finishes were Adrienne Vinson's third place finish in the 60 hurdles (9.27), and Patricia Watson earning second place in the weight throw with a toss of 49'07.75".
NC State will once again make the journey up to Blacksburg, Va., next weekend, as the Pack compete in the Virginia Tech Invitational Friday and Saturday.
