Wolfpack Finishes VPI Tournament With A 2-2 Split

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Charece Williams had 10 kills and nine defensive digs on Sept. 2 to lead the NC State volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Marshall in the third round of the Virginia Tech Invitational Tournament.
The Wolfpack, which defeated Marshall 15-9, 15-6, 11-15 and 15-8, lost to the host Hokies in its fourth match of the tournament, 13-15, 11-15, 15-4, 15-10 and 12-15. NC State won two of four games in the tournament.
Williams, a junior from Columbia, S.C., was one of six NC State players to notch eight kills of more, leading a balanced attack as the Wolfpack downed the Thundering Herd. Senior Meredith Price (Ellicot City, Md.) and sophomore Ali Magner (Lake Oswego, Ore.) had 12 defensive digs each.
Junior Allison Kreager (Ligonier, Ind.) led the Pack against the Hokies and wound up winning a spot on the all-tournament team. Kreager had 14 kills and a team-high nine digs against VPI, while Williams led the team with 16 kills. Sophomore Rebecca Anderson (Raleigh, N.C.) had 13 kills for the Wolfpack.
NC State will return to action Sept. 8-9 at Reynolds Coliseum in the NC State Outback Invitational.
