Tar Heels Sweep Past Wolfpack In ACC Volleyball

RALEIGH, N.C. (Sept. 26) - North Carolina made short work of NC State in Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball action on Sept. 26 at Reynolds Coliseum. The Tar Heels, who improved to 13-2 overall and 3-0 in the ACC, swept the Wolfpack in three games, 15-2, 15-3 and 15-10. The Wolfpack dropped to 5-9 overall and 0-3 in the ACC.
North Carolina was led by senior outside hitter Casey Simpson, who had a match-high 14 kills and just two hitting errors in 32 chances for a hitting percentage of .375. Sophomore outside hitter Laura Greene added six kills and one error in 22 chances for a .227 percentage. She also had seven digs and a pair of assisted blocks. UNC sophomore outside hitter Malaika Underwood had a match-high 10 digs, and sophomore setter Eve Rackham had 29 assists. As a team, the Tar Heels hit .270 for the match and had just 13 hitting errors, three service errors and one return error.
Junior outside hitter Charese Williams led NC State with 11 kills and just two errors in 24 attempts for a .375 percentage. Williams also had six digs, a solo block and an assisted block. Sophomore outside hitter Tara Greene led the Pack with eight digs, while freshman setter Crystal Shannon had 26 assists. The Wolfpack hit .055 for the match, committed 27 hitting errors, four service errors, and four return errors.
