Track Concludes Meet At UNC Charlotte

Charlotte, N.C. (April 15) - The NC State track and field team got in one last meet before next weekend's ACC Championships, by participating at the UNC Charlotte Collegiate Series held at UNC Charlotte on Saturday, April 15.
The men*s squad was led by the performance of its throwers. The Pack had three of the top four finishers in the discus, and four of the top six finishers in the hammer throw. Isaiah Ogelsby took first in the discus (162*), first in the hammer (184*8"), as well as second in the shot put (49*2.25"). Randy Cass took second on the discus, fourth in the shot put, and fifth in the hammer. Ryan Furlough also had a strong day, as the sophomore took second in the javelin (166*2") and third in the hammer (168*3").
The men*s team also did well in many of the running events. Finishing in first was Tyrone Dozier took first in the 400 meters (46.92), Chris Dugan in the 1,500 meters (3:51.16), and Scott Wirgau in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:18.59).
The women*s team was led by the performance of its middle distance runners. The Pack had the top three finishers in the 1,500 meters, as well as three of the top five in the 800 meters. Katie Sabino (4:35.06) took home first in the 1,500 meters, while teammates Melinda Dubose (4:39.44) and Beth Kraft (4:39.83) finished second and third. Molly Purser finished first in the 800 meters with a time of 2:13.37. Yvonne Downing was a close second with a time of 2:13.81, while Karen Sykes placed fifth (2:22.29).
The women also were strong in the throws. Jamie Walls took home first int eh hammer with a toss of 132*6", while teammate Tiffany Heath finished second (125*2"). Next weekend the Pack will head to Durham, N.C., to participate in the 2000 Outdoor ACC Championships held by Duke University.
