Wolfpack Volleyball Loses Heartbreaker At UNC

Both teams had three players record double-figure kills, led by the Wolfpack's Charece Williams, a junior outside hitter, with 27. Senior middle blocker Stephanie Stambaugh had 17 kills for the Wolfpack, and sophomore outside hitter Rebecca Anderson had 10. Senior right-side hitter Meredith Price set a new career high with 34 digs, nearly doubleing her previous high of 18, set twice previously this season. Freshman setter Crystal Shannon had 62 assists to pace both teams.
UNC's Laura Greene led the Tar Heels with 20, while Krista Buchholz and Casey Simpson registered 13 and 11 kills respectively. Malaika Underwood tallied 19 digs followed by Eve Rackham and Liz Feldman with 11 each. Lisa Fryer added 10 digs and three service aces.
NC State jumped out to a 4-0 lead in game one before the Tar Heels came back to tie the game 8-8. The Wolfpack answered with four points but Carolina held NC State to 12 and rallied for seven unanswered points to take the game, 15-12.
Carolina jumped to an early lead in the second game and went on to take a 15-8 decision.
The Wolfpack came to life in game three, jumping to a 9-1 lead and rolling to a 15-7 win. NC State out hit UNC .367 to .034. Game four saw both teams record numerous sideouts. The Pack took a 12-6 lead, watched the UNC rallied to tie the game at 14-14, then went on to take a 16-14 victory.
North Carolina pounded the ball in game five and defensively outblocked NC State 4-0, keeping the Wolfpack to a negative hitting percentage. The Tar Heels surged to a 15-7 win.
