Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision To Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (Oct. 6) - University of Virginia fourth-year middle Deanna Zwarich (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission North) recorded match-highs of 22 kills and nine blocks to lead the Cavaliers to a 3-1 (15-8, 15-9, 14-16, 15-4) victory over North Carolina State Oct. 6.
With the win, the 'Hoos have now won eight-consecutive matches over the Wolfpack and improve to 8-8 overall and 4-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. NC State falls to 6-11 overall and 0-5 in the ACC.
Senior middle blocker Stephanie Stambaugh led NC State with 14 kills, while junior middle blocker Alison Kreager notched 11 kills and 13 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Tara Greene led all players with 20 digs, while freshman setter Crystal Shannon contributed 38 assists and 10 digs.
Virginia won the first two games by scores of 15-8 and 15-9, respectively. The Cavaliers spotted NC State an 11-0 lead in the third game and scored 12 straight points to take a 12-11 advantage. The 'Hoos then took a 14-13 lead, but the Wolfpack came back to take the game 16-14. UVa won the fourth game decisively, 15-4, to close out the match.
