The match was relatively tight in the first game, despite the early 8-1 lead by the Deacons. NC State came back to score seven unanswered points to bring the deficit within an 8-7 margin. Wake continued to dominate the action, maintaining a four-point lead much of the rest of the game. The Wolfpack finally succumbed 15-10. The second game was less of a struggle for the Deacons, who scored nine consecutive points to go on top of NC State 14-3. The Wolfpack managed to outscore the Deacs 3-1 to end the game.
The third game saw a great deal of controversy, as NC State was cited for serving out of rotation to begin the game. Before the foul was spotted, however, the Wolfpack scored twice. With the score 3-2 in favor of the Deacons, NC State saw its two points deducted for the infraction. Wake then built an 11-0 lead before giving up a point to NC State on a kill by Wolfpack outside hitter Charece Williams. Wake scored the next four points to wrap up the match and its 15th game of the season.
The Wolfpack were led by Meredith Price and Williams, who recorded nine and eight kills, respectively. Setter Jackie Stratton registered 20 assists, while Price led NC State's defense with nine digs.
The Deacons improve their record to 15-7 overall and 6-5 in ACC play. Wake continues its three-match home stand against North Carolina and Duke. The Deacs take on the Tar Heels on October 28 at 7:00 pm, and will entertain the Duke Blue Devils in a Halloween match at 7:00 pm at Reynolds Gym.
