Raleigh, NC (Oct. 13) - The NC State Fall Invitational completed the first day of competition with seven Wolfpack players winning two matches and advancing to the semifinals of their respective flights Oct. 13 at the Wolfpack Tennis Complex. Doubles were postponed until Oct. 14.
Leading the way for the Wolfpack was senior Eric Jackson, ranked 73rd in the nation, who defeated Chris Chiu of Maryland (6-1, 6-4) to advance. Jackson will participate in the tournament unattached. Junior Bryce McGrory also defeated Nicholas Jeffrelot of East Carolina (7-6, 7-6) to get through to the semifinals.
"This was a very good day for us," said NC State head coach Eric Hayes. "Our goal is to win every flight and we feel as though we have put ourselves in position to do that. A lot of our guys won some very tough matches and that is what is so great about these tournaments. You cant always recreate this type of pressure and intensity during practice."
The NC State Fall Invitational will continue Saturday with play set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
