The Pack came out very intense as it exploded in the first game to take a quick 15-9 victory. NC State continued their momentum as they hopped out to an early 8-5 lead in the second game before the Huskies began to focus and rolled off 10 straight points. The Pack held strong in the next two contests, but seemed to show signs of fatigue as they fell in both contests.
This marked the Pack's fifth match in three days as they had won the previous four matches en route to being named the NC State Wyndham Garden Invitational Champions.
Alison Kreager, who took home MVP honors for the Pack following the invitational, tied for second on the team with 12 kills on her way to a .310 hitting percentage. Kreager, whose been the Pack's most consistent player so far this season, was backed up by Charece Williams (20 kills) and Erin Vesey (61 assists), each of which was named to the all-tournament squad yesturday. Junior Lisa Liberi tied Kreager with 12 kills while tallying a team high 17 digs. It was the second consecutive match that Liberi has excelled in.
The Pack will be off for the next four days as it prepares itself for the University of Missouri at Kansas City's Kangaroo Classic. In that invitational, the Pack, who play two matches on Friday, September 17 and two on Saturday, September 18, will meet the host Kangaroo's along with Tennessee St., William and Mary and Illinois-Chicago. NC State returns to the friendly confines of Reynolds Coliseum on Tuesday, September 21 as they meet Davidson. The Wildcats and the Pack will face off beginning at 7:00 p.m.
