Volleyball Goes Undefeated in Wyndham Garden Invitational

RALEIGH, N.C. (Sept. 11) - The NC State volleyball team easily handled the Campbell Camels and the Morehead St. Eagles on Saturday, as they swept each squad. The Pack topped Campbell 15-9, 15-8, 15-8 in its first contest of the day before handing a straight game loss to Morehead St., 15-2, 15-6, 15-9. With the two victories the Pack improved its season record to 6-4. The four victories the Pack tallied this weekend also increased it winning streak in an NC State hosted tournament to 12. NC State closed out this decade with a 37-10 (.787) mark as tournament hosts.
In the first match of the day, Alison Kreager, who last night tied an NC State single match record with 14 total blocks, once again led the way for the Pack. Her team high 12 kills and 4 blocks helped to pace NC State to an easy victory. Charece Williams (11 kills) and Erin Vesy (32 assists) also kept the Pack on track as they quickly disposed of the Camels.
At the final match of the NC State Wyndham Garden Invitational, the Pack came out hot, winning the first match 15-2, and never relinquished its momentum. Charece Williams (13 kills, .407 hitting percentage) and Lisa Liberi (8 kills, .400 hitting percentage) were the hot players for the Pack.
Sophomore Erin Vesey, who severely bruised he wrist in Tuesday's match against Montana St., led the Pack in assists, as she has in all 10 of its contests, with 38.
The Pack will be back in action as they take on a tough Connecticut squad tomorrow. That match, set to being at 3:00 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum, is a rematch of a tight contest played two years ago. In that match, NC State took the Huskies to a fifth game before loosing in the final frame 11-15. Following Sunday's match with the Huskies, the Pack will be preparing itself for the University of Missouri at Kansas City's Kangaroo Classic. In that invitational, the Pack, who play two matches on Friday, September 17 and two on Saturday, September 18, will meet the host Kangaroo's along with Tennessee St., William and Mary and Illinois-Chicago.
