Volleyball Defeats East Carolina, 3-1

GREENVILLE, N.C. (Nov. 2) -- N.C. State lost the first game in its match against East Carolina, but rallied to claim a 3-1 (13-15, 15-10, 15-6, 15-5) victory in Greenville.
The Wolfpack improves to 13-15 while the Pirates fall to 8-12 on the year. The victory was the Pack's 35th against the Pirates and its 28th straight in the series.
East Carolina got out on top early in the first game before NC State mounted a rally. The Pirates held the Wolfpack off, winning the first game by two points and outhitting them .410-.208. From there, however, the Pirates' production fell off as ECU was unable to hit over .200 in any of the three remaining games. On the night, N.C. State outhit the Pirates .248-.192.
Tara Greene and Alison Kreager collected match-highs for kills with 15 apiece for the Wolfpack. Katie Kost led N.C. State at the net, collecting five total blocks, as the Wolfpack outblocked the Pirates 8.0-7.0.
Cinta Claro led the Pirate offense despite having to switch to setter in the third game when Donovan re-injured a previous ankle sprain. Claro finished with 11 kills and a .259 hitting percentage while adding seven assists and six digs. LuCinda Mason pitched in with 10 kills, 15 digs and four total blocks. Donovan added 27 assists before leaving the contest.
NC State will now prepare to take on ACC foes Duke and Wake Forest this weekend. The Pack will travel to Cameron Indoor Stadium for a Friday night affair with the Blue Devils. On Saturday, NC State will continue down Tobacco Road, to Winston-Salem, as they will meet the Demon Deacons. Friday's match is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. while Saturday's contest will start at 7:00 p.m.
