T.J. Read enters his first season as the director of operations for the NC State Volleyball program.

Read comes to Raleigh following two seasons as volunteer assistant coach at The Ohio State with the men’s volleyball program. He helped lead the Buckeyes to its second National Championship during the 2016 season.

While in Columbus, Read also worked with the girls and boys teams at the Elite Volleyball Training Center as head coach and program director. The Fresno, Calif., native was an Academic All-Big Ten Selection and Academic All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) honoree as a student-athlete at Ohio State.

Read also served in the United States Air Force prior to attending Ohio State to play collegiate volleyball and earn his degree in physical education. His father Tom played for the U.S. National Team from 1973-76.

“I’ve been following the program over the years and what really attracted me to the position is the culture that the new staff has instilled,” Read added. “The coaching staff is very invested in the program and the student-athletes, which makes it very desirable.

“I think the way that the coaches communicate with the girls is extremely effective and they get the most out of them because of that. I feel like I’m going to learn a lot here and the girls are outstanding with really good attitudes about getting better.”
