Sam Craven has been with the Wolfpack as a full time staff member since June 2014. Started as an assistant strength and conditioning coach and was promoted to Associate Director in 2018. His primary responsibilities include design and implementation of strength and athletic preparation programs for Wrestling, Women’s Tennis, and Men’s Tennis. Sam also oversees the facility coordination of the Weisigner-Brown weight room.
Prior to 2014 Sam was a Sports Performance Associate for Purdue Olympic Sports. At Purdue Sam worked with Softball, Cross Country, Wrestling, Track and Field, Women's Basketball, and Women’s Volleyball. Before arriving at Purdue, Sam was a Strength and Conditioning intern with the Wolfpack working with nearly all of Olympic sports from May 2011 - February 2012. Before joining the Wolfpack for the first time, Sam was a Graduate Strength Coach at Ball State University. Sam has also worked with Exos (formerly Athletes Performance) as a Performance Specialist intern and with the University at Buffalo as a Strength and Conditioning intern coach.
Sam holds a Masters degree in Sports Performance from Ball State University and a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology from the State University of New York at Brockport. He also holds a CSCS certification from the NSCA.
A former middle distance track and field athlete at Brockport U, Sam continues to seek competitive environments, training opportunities, and the pursuit of self-improvement. Enjoys leisure activities on the beach and in the backyard.
