Brittany Morris joined the Wolfpack women’s basketball staff as an assistant coach prior to the start of the 2021-22 campaign, and has completed three seasons with the team.
Morris joined the Pack after spending the 2020-21 season as an assistant coach at East Carolina. She previously spent time in Raleigh as a graduate assistant for NC State during the 2015-16 and 2016-17 campaigns.
Morris’ first season back with the Wolfpack marked one of the most historic seasons in program history, and she played a vital role in leading a star-studded group of NC State guards. Under her guidance, Diamond Johnson was named a top 10 finalist for the 2022 Lieberman Award and was honored as the 2022 ACC Sixth Player of the Year. Wolfpack rookie Aziaha James was also named to the 2022 ACC All-Freshman Team.
In 2021-22, Morris helped guide the Pack to its third-straight ACC Tournament title and its first regular-season and tournament crown sweep since 1984-85. In addition to reaching the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight for the first time since 1998, the team won a program-record 32 games and finished the year ranked No. 3 in the AP Top 25.
She also was a part of the team’s quest through one of the toughest schedules in the nation in 2022-23, with that squad ending the campaign with a 20-12 record and a 9-9 mark in ACC games on its way to qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for a program-best sixth season in a row. Wolfpack guards Johnson (Second Team All-ACC) and Saniya Rivers (ACC Sixth Player of the Year) were both honored with 2023 postseason awards under her guidance.
The Pack is coming off one of the most memorable seasons in program history following the 2023-24 campaign that ended in the school’s first Final Four since 1998, as well as a 31-7 record with a No. 4 final AP ranking and nine top 25 wins. NC State had one of the best backcourts in the nation, in which Rivers and James were both All-ACC First Team selections. Rivers was also up for several national awards, including being a top 10 candidate for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award.
Prior to her time at East Carolina, Morris was on the staff at UNCW for three seasons. She helped UNCW win 13 home games in 2018-19, which marked the most for the Seahawks since moving to Division I. Under Morris’ tutelage, UNCW’s Shrita Parker was named the USBWA National Player of the Week in January 2019 as well as named to the All-CAA Second Team following the 2018-19 campaign.
She took on the additional responsibility of recruiting coordinator during her last two years with the Seahawks, helping bring in a top-100 recruiting class in 2018 and signing the top-ranked class in the CAA each of those seasons.
Morris started her collegiate coaching career at Virginia Tech, serving as video coordinator for the 2014-15 campaign. She then made her return to Raleigh for her stint as graduate assistant. While with the Pack in that role, Morris helped the team to a 43-20 combined record. That included a 23-9 clip in 2016-17 and advancement to the second round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
As a player, Morris was a four-year letterwinner for Seton Hall where she played from 2009-13. She started three seasons for the Pirates and led Seton Hall in scoring (13.6 PPG) during the 2012-13 campaign on her way to earning All-Big East Second Team honors. Morris is ranked 26th in Seton Hall’s history with 997 career points and second with 178 career 3-pointers. She also excelled in the classroom, earning spots on the Big East All-Academic Team and the Dean’s List.
A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Morris earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Seton Hall in 2013 and her master’s degree in communications from NC State in 2017. She played high school basketball at local Broughton High School before starting her collegiate career.
COACH MOORE'S TAKE:
"We're excited to welcome Brittany back to our program. She's an up-and-coming coach who excels in a lot of areas. Not too far removed from her own days as a player, Brittany will do a great job with our guards while serving as a mentor to all our players. She's also a passionate recruiter who brings established relationships with both in-state and East Coast players and coaches. Most importantly, I know first-hand that Brittany is a great person who will always be there to support and lift up our student-athletes in basketball and in life."
