Prior to his hiring as assistant coach, he spent two seasons as a graduate assistant coach with the team. He assists with the sprint and middle distance groups on a daily basis and aids in recruiting.
Guntoro has been a part of the program’s climb to the top of the national rankings, as he played a role in the men’s program’s six consecutive ACC titles and the team’s top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.
Â
He also helped the Wolfpack women to their first conference title since 1980. In 2017, the women ended Virginia’s nine-year streak to win the ACC crown and earn its highest NCAA finish in program history, taking seventh. The team went on to win the conference crown again in 2019 and tied its program-best No. 7 finish at the NCAA Championships.Â
Â
In 2015, Guntoro received a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies with a concentration on Sport and Youth Development from NC State. Prior to his stint with the Wolfpack, he served as a volunteer assistant at UNCW, where he helped the Seahawks to win their 11th-straight title in 2012 under former head coach Dave Allen.
Â
Guntoro graduated from UNCW in 2011 with an accounting degree and was a member of the university’s swimming and diving team. At UNCW, he was the school record holder in the 100 butterfly and in multiple relay events and became a multiple-time CAA Champion in relay events. He also represented Indonesia on an international level from 2003 to 2011.Â
