Patrick Swift was named assistant coach of the NC State softball program on June 23, 2018.
Swift comes to Raleigh after serving as an assistant and associate head coach at Saint Francis where he helped guide the Red Flash to back-to-back conference championship titles, the first in program history, and clinch a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances, which were also the first in program history.
"Patrick brings an attention to detail unlike any coach I’ve seen in our game," said Patrick-Swift upon his hiring. "He’s a tireless worker and recruiter, and he has an uncanny ability to see things on the field to gain the extra edge. His passion for his teams to be the best in every phase of the game is clearly seen and felt by everyone around him. I have no doubt his drive toward excellence will motivate our Pack to do the same both on and off the field."
Swift was a part of helping lead NC State to 31 wins during the 2019 regular season and reach the ACC Championship semifinals for the first time since 2013.
“I'm so excited to be joining the NC State community and Wolfpack Softball Family,” said Swift. “I’m honored and ready to begin this journey with Coach Patrick-Swift to take NC State softball to new heights. Being able to coach in the ACC is a dream come true.”
Through his seven seasons in Loretto, SFU earned 226 total wins, including 61 in conference play. The program saw 31 All-NEC and 10 NFCA All-Great Lakes Region selections, as well as three NEC Rookies of the Year, two NEC Players of the Year, two NEC Pitchers of the Year and one NEC Gold Glove recipient.
In 2018 SFU went 39-19 and earned an automatic bid to the Tucson NCAA Regional, where the Red Flash battled valiantly with 10th-ranked Arizona before dropping a 1-0 decision in its opener. The team led the nation in home runs with 83 heading into the NCAA Tournament. In 2017 Saint Francis captured its first-ever NCAA Tournament win with an 8-4 victory over New Mexico State at the Tucson Regional.
In his first six seasons Saint Francis improved its win total each year. In 2012, Swift’s first season, the Red Flash went 22-26 and in 2017 the team compiled a 49-11 record, the most wins in a single season for both SFU and among the NEC.
Prior to Saint Francis, Swift served as the head baseball coach at Immaculata University for three seasons. While there he aided in the establishment of the Mighty Macs baseball program and recruited and enrolled 26 student-athletes for the inaugural season in 2009. Additionally, Swift assisted in the design and preparation process for the team’s indoor hitting facility and baseball complex.
Swift served as an assistant softball coach for one season at York College of Pennsylvania, working with catchers and aiding in the recruiting process. He has also spent time working as a softball camp and clinic instructor.
A Williamston, N.C. native, Swift played baseball at Chowan University from 2002-05 and graduated in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in sports science. He and his wife, Jennifer, have three daughters.
