Steve will be eligible at NC State for the first time in 1995-96 after transferring from Furman and sitting out the 94-95 season … Worked out with the Wolfpack last year and impressed coaches with his potential … Took another step forward with consistent work in the weight room in the off-season … Will provide solid depth in the post behind Todd Fuller … Already a sound rebounder and defender, his offensive skills are improving … Could see action alongside Fuller in a double-post alignment at times this winter.
Freshman Season: Steve averaged 1.9 points and 1.9 rebounds per game for the Paladins … Saw action in 27-28 games that season and started the last six games of the year … Averaged 7.8 minutes per game … Shot 47.9 percent from the field and 31.6 percent from the foul line.
High School Career: As a senior at Asheville High School, Steve averaged 19.7 points, 15 rebounds and six blocked shots per fame to earn first-team all-conference honors … Shot better than 50 percent from the field and 85 percent from the free throw line … Helped AHS to a 21-0 regular season record, a 23-1 over-all record and a berth in the state 4-A championship game … Pulled down 25 rebounds in the conference finals, and contributed 25 points and 19 rebounds in the second round of the state playoffs against West Henderson … Played in the North Carolina East-West All-Star Game and scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds to help the West to a 96-87 victory … Was a part-time starter and a teammate of Ishua Benjamin with the 19-and-under Charlotte Royals team that won the AAU national championship following his final prep campaign … Averaged 16.3 points and 14 rebounds per game as a junior at AHS … Also had three blocked shots per contest … Shot 47 percent from the floor and 74 percent from the free throw line.
