Ryan started his tenure at NC State in August of 2010 and is the longest tenured member of the Sports Medicine staff. He currently serves as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Wolfpack Men's Basketball program.
Originally from Havelock, NC, Ryan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Western Carolina University. While at WCU, he worked primarily with the football and baseball teams. Prior to graduation, he served as an intern at the University of Virginia with the NCAA national runner-up women's lacrosse program. Upon graduation from Western Carolina, Holleman went on to further his education and received his Masters of Education from The University of Nebraska. While with the Huskers, he served as the primary athletic trainer with baseball and assisted with the football program. Ryan is currently completing his Doctor of Athletic Training degree through the Arizona School of Health Sciences at A.T. Still University. The Doctor of Athletic Training program is one of the first of its kind and offers advanced levels of expertise in: clinical decision making, orthopedic rehabilitation, leadership, and applied research.
Ryan is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association and currently serves as the representative for the State of North Carolina on the MAATA Young Professionals Committee. He is also involved with other committees and task forces at the district level. Ryan has presented at multiple conferences on numerous topics that include: professional development, postural asymmetries, shoulder injuries, core assessment, and functional movement screens.
Ryan's passions include improving the health and welfare of each student-athlete at NC State. He does this by continually researching evidence-based clinical methods and participating in continuing education events. Ryan currently holds multiple credentials in the field of sports medicine and persistently strives to apply these methods in his daily work. Some of these credentials include: Certified/Licensed athletic trainer (BOC/State of NC), Instructor for First- Aid/CPR/AED (American Red Cross), Corrective Exercise Specialist (National Academy of Sports Medicine), Sound-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (SASTM), and Functional Movement Screen (FMS). He is also nationally certified as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
Ryan currently resides in Knightdale with his wife (Tammy), daughter (Karli Rae), and two dogs (Leila & Ellie). His wife is the Head Athletic Trainer at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. He enjoys running half marathons, cycling, kayaking, and spending time with his family.
