2022 SEASON:
• One of the Pack’s most reliable defensive performers over his past three seasons.
• Versatile defensive back who played nickel, safety and corner during his career.
• Slowed by injuries in 2022, he missed 3.5 games with an injury earlier in the year, then the last three games of the regular season with a different injury.
• Saw action at nickel and corner in the win over Virginia Tech.
• Had two interceptions in the first two games of the year.
• Pulled down his fourth career interception on the second play of the season, then his fifth vs. Charleston Southern.
• Also caused a fumble on a 13-yard sack in that win.
• An honorable mention All-ACC performer.
• Exited the Texas Tech game early with an ankle injury, he saw action at nickel and corner in that contest as well.
• Missed ‘22 spring practice as he continued to rehab following surgery.
• A veteran of 45 career games played and 28 games started at both nickel and safety.
• Chose to return for his fifth season, he played 2,171 career snaps - the third-highest number on the defense.
2021 SEASON:
• A second-team PFF All-ACC performer, he was an honorable mention All-ACC choice on the official league team.
• Won the team’s DeWayne Washington Award for top defensive back for the second straight season.
• Pulled down two interceptions for the season - one against Furman and one vs. Wake Forest.
• Ranked second on the team in passes broken up with eight and was one of the ACC leaders in passes defended (14).
• Missed the FSU game and UNC games with injuries.
2020 SEASON:
• Won the team’s 2020 DeWayne Washington Award for top defensive back.
• Started at nickel in eight games, free safety in two.
• In for a career-high 90 snaps vs. Miami while starting at free safety.
• Ranked second on the team in PBUs with eight.
• Led the team with 14 tackles vs. the Hurricanes - another career high.
• Starter at FS again vs. FSU - he pulled down his first career INT.
• Started the UNC game at nickel and played 45 snaps there, then moved over to free safety and played 32 snaps at that position.
• Missed the Pitt and Virginia games due to contact tracing, he was out for part of preseason camp for the same reason.
2019 SEASON:
• Backup nickel who started three games in 2019, but played more snaps (499) than any other player at the position.
• Tallied a career-high seven tackles in just 44 snaps vs. Clemson.
• Had two pass breakups in the win over Western Carolina.
• Moved to nickel prior to 2019 spring drills.
2018 SEASON:
• Saw action in eight games as a true freshman, seeing action at safety in passing situations and running back.
• Started off as a safety, but moved to RB after injuries at that position for the opener. Sat out the next five contests, then came back and played on special teams and at safety in the last seven games.
• Played on three of the Pack’s four special teams units.
HIGH SCHOOL:
• Played safety, outside linebacker and wide receiver at local Southeast Raleigh High School for two seasons for coach Daniel Finn. Started his prep career at Ravenscroft.
• Senior Stats: Had 31 catches for 594 yards and six touchdowns. Also had 43 rushes for 276 yards.
• Honors: Named both the offensive (wide receiver) and defensive (safety) conference player of the year. Team captain.
• Junior Stats: Pulled down 25 catches for 480 yards and six scores
• Rankings: No. 35 prospect in North Carolina by rivals.com.
PERSONAL:
• Lost his mother to cancer in July of 2022.
• His grandfather “Big John” Baker, was the first African-American sheriff in North Carolina since the Reconstruction era, holding that post in Wake County for 24 years.
