Gary Wilkins joined the Wolfpack strength and conditioning staff in January of 2022 as a assistant coach. He came to NC State after serving in the same capacity at Georgia Tech in 2021.
After his professional football playing career, Wilkins coached high school football for a year, then took a position as a video position at Georgia Tech. In 2019, he was on the football staff at Georgia State and then was the Director of Strength & Conditioning at Morehouse college in 2020.
A four-year letterwinner at Furman (2011-14), Wilkins was a two-time All-Southern Conference performer. In 2014, he was named the Paladins’ Defensive MVP while earning All-America honors and helped lead the team to its first SoCon title in 10 years. He served as team captain as a junior and senior and was a member of the squad’s Leadership Council.
For his career, Wilkins tallied 294 tackles – including 37.5 tackles for loss and15 sacks - two interceptions (both returned for touchdowns), four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. His 98-yard pick six ranks as the second-longest INT return in school history, while his career sack total ranks seventh on Furman’s career list.
Following his collegiate career, Wilkins signed with the Oakland Raiders as an Undrafted Free Agent.. After the NFL, he played for two seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League.
He earned his degree in communications with a focus in mass media from Furman in 2015.
Born Feb. 9, 1992 in Stone Mountain, GA. Wilkins is married to Tabitha Turner-Wilkins
He is CSCS Certified through the National Strength & Conditioning Association and is a member of the NSCA, First Aid, CPR & AED Certified.
