CONWAY, S.C. – The NC State (9-2) volleyball team rallied in the fourth and fifth sets to top Coastal Carolina (4-5), 3-2, Sunday afternoon in the final match of the Chanticleer Classic.

After dropping sets two and three, the Wolfpack held the Chants to just 13 points in the fourth to regain momentum and force a fifth set, eventually securing the win.

Set-By-Set Summary
One: The match opened with seven early ties up to 9–9 before NC State pulled away with a 4–0 run. Key plays from Jordan Smith, Sophie Groom, and Britni Silver gave the Wolfpack a 13–9 lead, which Kate Kilpatrick widened to 22–17 with consecutive aces. Despite a late Coastal Carolina surge that trimmed the deficit to two, Smith answered with a kill and an ace to seal the 25–21 win. NC State hit .364 with 16 kills in the frame while holding Coastal to just four kills.
Two: NC State took an early 10–6 lead in the second set behind kills from Groom and Silver. Coastal Carolina responded with a 5–1 run to tie it at 11–11, before Anna Rita sparked a breakout with back-to-back slide kills to put the Chanticleers ahead 15–12. Coastal finished on a 10–6 run to claim the frame 25–18, attacking at a .364 clip with 16 kills while holding NC State to a -.031 hitting efficiency.
Three: The third frame featured a tight, back-and-forth battle with 11 ties and five lead changes. NC State built a 17–14 advantage, but Coastal Carolina countered with a 5–1 spurt to go up 19–18. Natalie Hughes led the Chants late push with a kill and a solo block, before closing out the 25–21 win with a kill.
Four: NC State opened the fourth set on a 4–0 run before breaking open a 7–7 tie with a dominant 11–1 run. Outside Clara Vondran dominated the net, putting down six kills on seven attempts without an error in the set. Smith added a 5–0 service run with an ace to bring up set point and Vondran finished it off for the 25–13 victory. The Wolfpack hit .500 as a team while holding the Chanticleers to a .000 mark.
Five: Coastal Carolina took an initial 4–1 lead in the tiebreaker, but NC State quickly answered to level the score at 5–5. Locked at 8–8, setter Eva Long sparked a 4–0 run with an ace and a forced error to put NC State in control at 12–8. Kilpatrick added an ace to reach match point, and a final Coastal service error completed the Pack's 15–10 set win.

The five-set win marked the fourth of its kind won this season by the Pack.
The Pack's 12 service aces mark the second most in a match this season (14 vs. Charlotte).
Kate Kilpatrick set a new career high with five service aces.
Jordan Smith set a new career high in aces (4) and blocks (8.0).
Britni Silver led the Pack offensively for the 10^th match this season.
Sophie Groom hit a match high .300 after finishing with nine kills on 20 attempts with just three errors. The middle blocker added 5.0 total blocks to the box score as well.
NC State outperformed the Chanticleers in kills (50-46), aces (12-5) and digs (51-43) but the two teams tied in blocks (11.0).
The win marked the 840^th in program history, 24^th under head coach Megan Wargo-Kearney, ninth of the season and second over the Chants in program history. It also marked the final non-conference match of the 2026 campaign for the Pack.
