Raleigh, N.C. - It was an all-around dominant performance on both sides of the ball as NC State treated the Wolfpack faithful to a 73-0 victory in the 2026 home opener at Carter-Finley Stadium on Friday night. The Wolfpack set numerous program records, including the most points scored at Carter-Finley Stadium by any team and the most by a Wolfpack team since 1920. The 10 touchdowns are the most since 1919, when the Wolfpack managed to put up an astounding 15 touchdowns on the board. Eight of the Wolfpack scores came on the ground, as 10 different rushers totaled 428 rushing yards to go with 734 total yards of offense, all three new program records.

The shutout marks the first for the Wolfpack defense since doing so in the 2021 season opener against USF in a 45-0 victory. The Pack's 49 points in the first half were enough to achieve their largest lead at the break in at least the last 30 seasons. The 73-point Pack victory was the seventh-largest margin and the most since 1920.

Running back Duke Scott led the way for the Wolfpack offense, rushing for 126 yards and two scores on just nine carries, including a 65-yard house call. His explosive start made him the first NC State running back with 100 rushing yards in the first quarter of a game since Matthew Daynes did so against Wake Forest in 2015.

Freshman Dylan McCoy had his first big game in a Wolfpack uniform, accounting for 73 rushing yards on just four carries. His score from 51 yards out in the closing minutes was what gave the Pack the new program record.

Quarterback CJ Bailey went 13-of-17 for 281 yards through the air with a touchdown and added 25 yards on the ground with a score. His favorite target on the night was Keenan Jackson, who brought in four passes for a career-best 123 yards, including a 54-yard reception – the longest of his career.

Short-yardage specialist Will Wilson did what he does best, finishing the day with three rushing touchdowns. He came away with 62 yards rushing on ten carries. He also hit career highs through the air with 25 passing yards on three completions, including a touchdown to give him four total.

Wide receiver Jojo Trader finished with three catches for 52 yards in his second game since coming to Raleigh. Jonathan Paylor matched Trader's yardage on just two carries in his second game back from injury.

Sophomore tight end Preston Douglas had a big night catching his first collegiate touchdown and posting 58 yards on two catches – both career bests. Davion Gause added to the record total with his best night since joining NC State with 37 yards on five carries.

Nickel Jackson Vick's interception and Ty White's fumble recovery accounted for the pair of NC State takeaways on the night.

Adrian Farrow and Elijah Satchell both led the defense with a sack and two TFLs apiece.

Following a Richmond punt, the Pack needed just four plays to open the scoring. Scott ripped a 43-yard run into Richmond territory before Gause carried it in two plays later from 19 yards out for his first NC State touchdown.

The run game continued to thrive with Scott shrugging off a tackler around the line of scrimmage en route to a 65-yard house call on the opening play of the next Wolfpack possession. The Pack's next drive took 13-plays but ended in the same result, Scott running it in for his second score in the game.

The Spiders' offense in early desperation attempted some trickery that quickly backfired, putting the ball on the ground on their own accord in the backfield before White fell on it for the takeaway. Bailey cashed in on the opportunity for seven more points, outrunning the Spiders on a sprint to the pylon from a yard out.

After an 88-minute weather delay, the Wolfpack defense kept raining down on the Spiders. Vick came down with an interception on the Richmond 43-yard line, followed by Wilson punching it in to extend the Pack's advantage to 35.

The Pack offense continued to pile on with a 15-yard touchdown reception for Douglas before their first and only punt of the contest to conclude their next possession as the half wound down.

Wilson once again punched in a score from a yard out to bring the halftime advantage to 49.

The Pack, sitting their starters coming out of the half, were immediately led down the field by Wilson, who capped off the drive with yet another rushing touchdown. They extended their lead again with transfer tight end Hunter Providence hauling in his first NC State touchdown. The score was set up by a 51-yard run from Paylor the previous play to put the Pack in prime scoring position.

With the game already out of hand, the sides mutually agreed to a shortened ten-minute fourth quarter, where Kanoah Vinsesett converted on a 45-yard attempt for the Pack's first field goal of the season.

McCoy ran in a 51-yard score in the closing minutes to bring the final count to 73-0 in favor of the Pack.

The NC State win moves the all-time series against Richmond to 19-1-1 and 2-0 under Dave Doeren.

The Wolfpack will next face Vanderbilt in Nashville on Saturday, September 19th, at 12:45 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
