RALEIGH, N.C. – After a career performance across four games, NC State freshman Morgen Talley earned ACC Freshman of the Week honors as well as D1 Softball National Freshman of the Week and Softball on SI Freshman of the week recognition.
The conference honor marks the third for the two-way player this season, while the D1 Softball accolade is her second and the Softball on SI is the first. She is the only freshman to repeat as D1 Softball National Freshman of the Week this season.
The Palm Harbor, Fla., native finished the four-game week with a .500 batting average and a .938 slugging percentage. She also posted a perfect fielding percentage.
At the plate, she recorded 13 RBIs, eight hits, four runs, two home runs – both grand slams – and a double.
In Friday's matchup with Cal, Talley launched a grand slam on a 1-1 count to deep left field in the fifth inning to provide insurance for the Pack. She finished the night a triple shy of hitting for the cycle, becoming the second member of the Pack to nearly accomplish the feat this season. Her seven RBIs tied a single-game program record, making her the only freshman in program history to do so.
She delivered again on Sunday, blasting a first-pitch grand slam in the second inning to left-center field to give the Wolfpack the lead.
In addition to her production at the plate, Talley appeared in all four games in the circle, earning three wins and a save. She tossed 11.0 innings and struck out 14 batters, including a game-high six on Sunday. The freshman did not surrender a lead in any of her appearances last week.
Talley leads the Wolfpack this season with 11 home runs and paces the pitching staff with 92 strikeouts.
